Prior to moving to North Carolina full time, Lauren was an intern at The Roanoke Rapids Daily Herald in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. She also worked as a breaking news reporter at the Des Moines Register during her final year of college.

She graduated from Drake University in May 2014 with degrees in news/Internet journalism and rhetoric and communication studies. During the 2011-12 year the paper won nine Iowa College Media Association awards under her editorship including “General Excellence” and “Best Editorial Leadership.”
